The York Dukes Softball team snatched up a conference title on Friday, September 29th. The had home field advantage on Friday because they played in the brand new softball complex. To start off the tournament, York's first opponent was the Lakeview Vikings. They dukes handled when with ease, handing them a 10-0 loss. The next opponent on the dukes schedule was the Holdrege Dusters. The dusters came out swinging and gave the dukes a bit of a problem in the beginning. Soon, the dukes answered back and didn't stop there. In the end, they beat Holdrege 14-2 and allowed York to advance to the championship. The championship match was a rival battle that goes back centuries. It was the York Dukes vs. the Seward Bluejays. The jays took an early lead and kept it more most of the game. With the dukes loosing hope and time ticking, a clutch sixth inning proved to be to much for the blue jays. York came out on fire and ending up scoring five straight point. Finally, in the last inning the jays came back firing, but Karlee Seevers heat was to much for them to handle. The dukes took home the conference championship and have their eyes set for dirscts; which they will host again next week. Source: Lincoln Journal Star
Hallway: To me, traveling to new places and meeting new people is a hobby I have enjoyed and have had the opportunity to experience throughout my high school years. Through an Educational Tour club, I have been able to travel to Europe and Costa Rica my freshman and junior summers. These trips have given me insights into how others live. I not only got to meet new people, but I tried many new foods and learned about their cultures. For example, while exploring Costa Rica, I got to ride on a boat through the forest and work alongside the native people. Another opportunity that I got happened last summer. I was able to go to Washington D.C. through Close-Up at my school. I learned what life was like in Washington D.C and was able to see the very buildings and documents that built and continue to mold this country. While I was on this trip, I even had the opportunity to meet some of the senators and discuss our nation's issues. These real world experiences have helped me grow in many areas of my life. I have made many friendships during these trips that will last a lifetime. Besides traveling the world, I also enjoy boating and camping during the summer. My family and I can be together and go fishing, tubing or even just sit by a campfire. Collectively, all of these trips don’t happen very often, but they have changed my view and sparked a passion that will guide my future.
